History

Let's go back to February, 1964 Salisbury, North Carolina when "Jim Shoaf's Barn Dance" was first founded by Jim and Vera Mae Shoaf.  It all started in the mid 50's in the basement of their home where they would invite friends and family over to dance and socialize.  Later Jim Operated many dance halls, one being Ellis Cross Roads in the early 60's.  Soon a loyal following developed.

In 1964, they built a local country and western dance hall 5 miles out from Salisbury on Hwy 601 where it still stands today.  Open every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., people from as far away as Iredell, Stanly and Davidson County, to name a few, come to dance the night away to live music.  Line dancing, two stepping, slow and fast dancing all can be seen during a night at the Wagon Wheel.

Since Jim Shoaf's death in 1992 at the age of 76.  The Barn Dance fell under the watchful eye of his son, Jim Jr. who with his wife Jean, added many new and exciting changes, but, keeping the original idea in the fore front,

 [Family entertainment for all ages].

A higher level sitting area with tables and chairs, larger band stand, paved parking lot, new cover entrance and siding and a new sign in neon lights on the side of the building.  Along with a new name [Wagon Wheel] they are ready for many more years of service.

In February 2004, the popular dance hall celebrated 40 years of entertainment.  The Wagon Wheel will continue to expand, to find new ways to improve the enjoyment of their many fans.
